Frequently Asked Questions

1. Question: How does hypnosis work?
Answer: Our mind works on two levels-the conscious and the unconscious. We make decisions, think and act with our conscious mind. The unconscious mind controls our habits. In the relaxed state known as hypnosis, we can communicate directly with the unconscious mind. This is why it is possible to change ‘fixed’ habits with hypnosis.

2. Question: Can I be hypnotised?
Answer: Yes you can. Hypnosis is actually a very natural state which everyone goes into, to varying degrees, many times a day. For instance watching TV, reading a book or newspaper, playing computer games, day dreaming, or the half awake state you’re in when waking up in the morning or falling asleep at night, these are all examples of hypnosis.
Anyone who wants to be hypnotised can go to a deep level of trance and achieve successful results using hypnosis. In fact in the session we give you all the information and instructions you need, to do that easily. However if a person is unwilling to follow hypnotic suggestions we can’t hypnotise them because we can’t make them do anything they don’t want to do.
Prior to your session we send you a CD which contains a self-hypnosis track. We have found this gives people a good insight into what hypnosis is and answers many of the questions they have about the process.

3. Question: Can you make me do things against my will?
Answer: No! By coming to the session we are assuming you want to stop smoking, beat alcohol or lose weight, etc. We can’t make you do what you don’t want to do. This is why a session is a partnership between a hypnotherapist and a client that has a desire for positive change.

4. Question: Does it make any difference how long I’ve had the problem?
Answer: No! For instance we’ve helped people become non smokers who had previously smoked as many as 60 a day for over 40 years.

5. Question: How does hypnosis help a person stop smoking, beat alcohol, lose weight etc?
Because smoking or overeating are habits, they are controlled by the unconscious mind. With hypnosis and NLP we can work directly with the unconscious, this is the only method that makes sense, and why, hypnosis can help a person make the transition into a healthy, happy, non-smoker in only one session.

6. Question: Will I know if I’m hypnotised?
Most people can’t tell the difference between the hypnotised and the waking states. Some people feel relaxed and lethargic, others don’t. One thing that people do notice is an inexplicable change in their daily behaviours.
